Vic: Nine in court over massive heroin haul
Seven men and two women have appeared in court charged with trafficking heroin after
more than six kilograms of the drug was yesterday seized in a series of Melbourne raids.
Prosecutor MICK JONES says all nine are Vietnamese and face charges of trafficking heroin.
Mr JONES says the raids on a number of houses in Braybrook, Springvale, Sunshine, St
Albans, and Deer Park, followed a drug squad operation lasting several months and netted
6.3 kilograms of heroin, drug paraphernalia and money.
He says the prosecution's brief may be delayed because there are 2,000 telephone intercepts
to be translated from Vietnamese.
Magistrate SUSAN WAKELING has remanded the nine in custody to reappear in Melbourne
Magistrates' Court on November 9.
There were no applications for bail.
The charged are Sydney trio GIAC VAN NGUYEN, aged 37, ZANZ VAN LE, aged 24, and 26-year-old
HIEN PHAM as well as Melbourne residents CHINH MAI, aged 20, VAN SOANG VU, aged 42, CUONG
CAO HOANG, aged 36, 47-year-old CUC THI TRAN, 26-year-old DI TRAN, and 45-year-old CAN
TANG.
