QLD: New court house to display indigenous art
BRISBANE, Dec 26 AAP - A $1.3 million court house to be built in the Gulf township of
Kowanyama next year will also provide space to display indigenous art.
State Attorney-General Matt Foley said residents of Kowanyama, an Aboriginal community on
the west coast of Cape York Peninsula, were being encouraged to contribute to the final design
of the project with construction to start in April.
"Involving the community in the design of the building will result in a more appropriate
facility," Mr Foley, who is also Queensland's arts minister said.
The building will include a courtroom, holding cells, a magistrate's chamber and staff
facilities.
Police said the magistrates court had been held in temporary accommodation for some years.
